Custom Home Design

Designing Your New Custom Home

There are so many details that go into designing a new home, so that it is just right for your needs and personal taste. Choosing a location in which you want to build your new custom home is the most important. An architect and the builder need to see the orientation of the home site to determine the type of house that will fit and the best way to lay it out to maximize your space and view.

Once your lot is selected, you need to ask yourself the following questions about your custom home design:

  • What style home do you want?
  • Do you want stucco and stone, stucco alone, brick, etc.?
  • What style roof do you want?
  • Do you prefer tile or composition shingles?
  • Do you want a one story or a two story?
  • What will fit on the lot given your needs?
  • How many bedrooms do you need, and what other rooms are necessary for your lifestyle?
  • How many bedrooms do you need on the first floor?
  • What type of interior finishes do you want?
  • Do you have any additional requests for flooring, appliances, etc.?
  • How much money do you plan to spend on your new home?

It is important to bring as much information as possible to your meeting with the custom home builder so that an expectation can be set. Choosing the right builder for you is also extremely important. You want to choose a builder who has a good reputation in the market and will be around for a long time. You can also ask for references.

Choosing Murray Custom Homes as Your New Custom Home Builder

If Murray Custom Homes is selected as your new home builder, you will then meet with our preferred architect or your architect of choice to lay out a sketch of your home or look through existing plans that have been built. After a plan is determined, Murray Custom Homes can determine a rough estimate of what the home will cost to build so that a contract may be drawn up. A design agreement may be required with a deposit to pay for hard costs prior to contracting on your new home.

Once the contract is signed, you will meet with our in-house Designer to work on the selections for your new custom home design. Certain selections must be completed prior to starting construction which will make the process much easier for you. You will then have a pre-construction meeting with the owner. Once all of the permitting is completed, plans approved, construction can begin.

We look forward to the opportunity to serve you!
