Home Builders Advice For The Best Mudroom Locker Design

Updated: Feb 27, 2020

There's a pretty good chance that you're going to have guests over for the upcoming holiday season. If this is the case, you'll want to do what you can to keep your home organized and clean. After all, the more guests you have, the more of a chance there is that mud or snow will be tracked into your home. Not to mention all the jackets, hats, scarves and more that will need a place to hang. This is why you should consider a built-in locker system for your mudroom.

What is a Mudroom Locker System?

A mudroom locker system will help keep the mess out of the rest of your home while also providing your guests with a stylish storage space for their winter wear. The following are a few things that you should incorporate into your new mudroom locker system design:

You can never go wrong with too many hooks. Putting up plenty of hooks on the walls of your mudroom gives guests a place to hang their coats and accessories right away. Hooks are often much more accessible than closet spaces, in which guests will have to fumble around with hangers.

USB Charging Ports

These days it seems we can never have too many charging locations. The mudroom lockers are a perfect location.

Providing a place for your guests to sit down in the mudroom is an excellent idea. This allows them to easily pull off their shoes or to put them back on as they enter and exit your home. While any type of seating option will do the trick, a bench allows you to use the space underneath as additional storage space.

Shoe Storage

Consider installing a large shoe rack in your mudroom. This will keep guests from tracking in mud, snow, rain or debris from outside. You may want to consider a taller shoe rack that is built in order to accommodate dripping depending on the climate you live in.

Slate Tile

When it comes to the flooring material you use in your mudroom, consider slate tile instead of something like hardwood. Slate or ceramic tile will be much easier to clean up than most other materials, something that you'll want to keep in mind considering how much dirt and debris will be tracked into your mudroom over the holidays.

Shelves or Cabinets

The mudroom should have storage space for all of your athletic items as well, from footballs to tennis rackets and more. Install shelves and/or cabinets to hold all of your sporting equipment. You may even want to keep some towels here in case anyone gets caught in the rain and needs to dry off before heading further into the house.

The mudroom is the perfect solution to keeping your home clean and organized during the holiday/winter season. These are just a few of the features that you should think about incorporating into your mudroom locker system design.
