Murray Custom Homes Awarded Rural Workforce Housing Funds Through Build Grand Island

On January 13, 2022, Murray Custom Homes was awarded a Rural Workforce Housing financing commitment from Build Grand Island, a program of the Grand Island Economic Development Council. The funding will be used to develop single-family owner-occupied housing in Grand Island.

The 2020 Community Housing Study for Grand Island showed a significant need for housing units for low-to-moderate-income families and workforce households. This funding and Murray’s partnership with Build Grand Island and the Grand Island Economic Development Corporation are some of the many actions being put into place to address this issue.

The funding allows Murray Custom Homes to secure vacant lots and begin the construction of single-family residences in Grand Island. The residences will be speculative housing, where the homes will be built without a prior commitment from a buyer. The homes will be approximately 1,200 SF with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the main level and an unfinished basement. Three different layouts will be built, and exterior/interior finishes will vary from house to house. It is estimated these homes will be completed in early 2023.

More information regarding Build Grand Island and Murray Custom Homes’ involvement will be shared on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at a press conference in Grand Island. Governor Pete Rickets and the Grand Island Economic Development Corporation will announce the inaugural housing projects at 3 pm, at 203 West 3rd Street.
